The Department of Fisheries Resource Management at College of Fisheries, Nagpur, emphases mainly on management of sustainable fisheries, stock assessment, identification of fishes and shell fishes, to study on biology of fishes and shell fishes etc. This department concern to study on biodiversity of species with conservation of endangered fishes and shell fishes. This department has organized practical trainings for farmers on selection of cultivable fishes and shell fishes along with management aspects of fisheries. College Students received subject knowledge acquaintance on fishes and shell fishes identification, study of biology of fishes, stock assessment, study of biodiversity, physiology of fishes and shell fishes etc. This department have good biological specimen lab of fresh water, brackish water and marine water fishes and shell fishes for practical knowledge to students and exposure of fishes and shell fishes for outside visitors, farmers etc This department have certain strategies for Sustainable Fisheries Management it includes the concept of sustainable fisheries leading to increased implementation of management strategies such as catch shares, quota systems, and ecosystem-based management. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include targets for the conservation and sustainable use of marine and fresh water resources, restoration of ecosystem. Uses of innovative technology, including satellite monitoring and improved data collection methods, have improved the ability to manage fishery resources effectively. More recently, this department focuses on the impact of climate change on fresh water and marine ecosystems has become a critical concern, further complicating fishery resource management.
