The Department of Aquaculture at College of Fisheries, Nagpur, focuses on advancing scientific fish farming and practical training. Students receive hands-on exposure to breeding, broodstock management, induced breeding, seed production, nursery management, and water quality management. The department operates a 0.7-hectare freshwater fish farm with nursery, rearing, and stocking ponds, culturing Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Common Carp. It also has specialized seed production units supplying quality fish seed to farmers and stakeholders. Through in-plant training, students gain field experience in shrimp aquaculture at leading brackish water farms in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The department has successfully completed a DBT-funded project on fish culture in polythene-lined farm ponds (₹17.19 lakh). Actively engaged in farmer training, extension programs, and technical guidance, the department also publishes scientific fish farming manuals and leaflets to support sustainable aquaculture practices.
